Module 15

Identify any tools/apps that you have found useful and interesting in your work as a digital historian. (I am particularly interested in apps that we have not covered in the course.) Some useful apps that I found helpful are, Data Visualizations, Digital toolbox for historians, resources for multimedia creations, Digital maps, timelines. Those tools helped me a lot because I discover more when I used those tools, also I found it helpful by reading the book to have a better understanding of what we’re covering in class or the assignment.

(1.) suggestions of at least two user participation projects, particularly those that focus on Virginia or local history (or could you suggest a crowd-sourcing project for a particular collection) that you find interesting.   1. The one that I found interesting was when people started tearing down important statues  2. roads in Virginia  How are these user-participation projects The statues project has to do with everyone in the United States and it has to do with history  The other one has to do with how people transport to and from work with new technology that has enhanced in today's world  URLs  https://www.virginiadot.org/about/resources/historyofrds.pdf https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/24/us/confederate-statues-photos.html  (2.) explain their importance These statues are a big part of American History and these people did many important things, for example, making the cities we live in and making the constitution of the US. its part of our history and people cant change histor

visualization

1.) suggestions of at least two online data sets, particularly relating to Virginia history if possible, that can be used for a data visualization project.   - The two online data sets I saw that you can use for a project was a bar chart and the second one was a line plot.  Those two you can definitely use for any projects that have to do with history and it would be easy to plot events in history. 2.) a visualization that you have found on the web and why you find it interesting.   The one that I thought was web trend map 4, this allows you to see what is currently trending online. This map is the most detailed one out of the four of them.  When I looked at it I thought it was interesting on how these engineers made this map.  It maps the 333 most influential Web domains and the 111 most influential internet people onto the Tokyo Metro map. Domains are carefully selected by the iA research team through dialogue with map enthusiasts.  It was made in Tokyo

Module 07: Assignment- reality vs non- reality

Image
My thoughts on the reality and non-reality (or fantasy) of the digital world; I think that we are losing touch with whats reality and non-reality.  For example, the news people never know what's real or fake when it comes to the news.  People read things and think that is real and talked about but its the press.  In the digital world, it's a bit harder since everyone is hard to tell what people believe. Researchers say that when humans excessively use digital media can negatively influence their cognitive and can cause behavioral development it can also cause mental and physical health to go bad.       b) give at least one example (preferably two) from a local, online museum or library that illustrates this real-nonreal phenomenon.     the two examples, the first example was the rest liberty in Leesburg and the next the other one is the International museum

I n the chapter read it talked about how the nature of the web is made with technologies used before the web.  This chapter reached me about what computers need and how to create your own web site.   This chapter also talked about when to use a database and how markup languages, what domains are & whatever you need one, hosts for our websites, and funding for our websites. some things that I found intersing while reading the book a web page can be deleted, altered and corrupted or technology obsolete  I learned what Website is really used for its sued for a collection of computer in a particular format I learned what a web page is really used for  I learned what HTML stands for and how it transmits web pages from one computer to another.  I saw what an HMTL format looks like learned that there are free programs for creating a  basic website When i was reading about style considerations i found how import it is to style your writing becuase it grabs the reads attetion and its go

blog post 2

some examples of blogs that are used in different ways for the study of history are they talk about tidbits of history in the news and analysis of historical publications/presentations. they are also used for academic research, easy way to publish stories, sharing love of history, historical society. Blogs give us a look at what it was like back then and how its changed now.  it gives us a better understanding of what people went through back than.     (b) follow two different historians or historical organizations/associations/entities using Facebook or Twitter (or an alternative social media) and describe on your blog.  the first one I followed is called the American historian.  When I looked at this account I saw its a magazine type account and talks about girlhood and how they can change history. The second one I'm looking at is called the Smithsonian NMAAHC which is about the journey of the African American heroes they went through to make history.  they also talk about
